8 Awesome Isuzu D-Max Accessories for 2021

eight-awesome-accessories-for-d-max

The new Isuzu D-Max shows just how good pickups can look in 2021. But that doesn’t mean it couldn’t benefit from a few optional extras. We’ve pulled together a list of eight essential Isuzu D-Max accessories that will max-out your D-Max once and for all.

  1. Bonnet Guard

D-Max drivers in need of some extra protection for their vehicles might want to check out the Bonnet Guard. This inexpensive add-on remains one of the most popular, and an easy way for those new to truck modding to get involved. Bonnet guards have the dual purpose of air deflection and also help keep stone chips away from your bonnet, and crucially, your windscreen.

Most bonnet guards are clip-in, so fitting is relatively painless (10 - 20 minutes max) and will help your truck stand out from the crowd.

  1. Wind Deflectors

Another accessory for the budget-conscious, wind deflectors will let you open your windows - great on a hot day or if one of your passengers has decided to share the repercussions of last night’s takeaway - without also letting in the rain. Given that May 2021 was one of the wettest May’s the UK has ever seen, a set of wind deflectors looks like a sound investment.

Wind deflectors can also help prevent windows from fogging and dark tinted deflectors also reduce glare from the sun.

  1. Load Bed Liners

Unless you only ever transport balloons, cotton wool and ornamental cushions, it’s likely you’ll have something in your cargo bed that could do some serious damage to your paintwork when your truck encounters a pothole or turns into a corner at over 20mph. That’s where load bed liners come into their own.

Typically made from high-density polyethylene plastic, load bed liners are designed to prevent scratches and damage to the truck bed and for protecting it from spillage, and can be easily cleaned with a water hose. The bedliner is easy to fit, and comes either as a ready to drop-in one-piece, or in a multi-part design for easier shipping. What’s more, liners from brands such as BedRug provide the look and feel of a carpet whilst offering a comparable level of vehicle protection, perfect for transporting pets and other delicate cargo in the truck bed.

  1. Hardtop Canopies

As an Isuzu D-Max owner you’ll know that your truck can handle just about anything. But have you ever stopped to think about how much more your D-Max could do if you could better protect your cargo? The ultimate accessory, a hard topper can turn your truck bed into a weatherproof, easy-access, covered storage area. Designed to provide strong bed protection for a marginal increase in vehicle weight, D-Max hardtop canopies can be colour-matched to your vehicle, helping to maintain your D-Max’s striking look.

Put aside any visions of crude, unpainted corrugated boxes - today’s hardtops can feature tinted and/or sliding side and rear windows, in-built central locking that acts as an extension to your existing central locking, integrated brake lights, and a stylish design created to complement the contours of your truck.

  1. Truck Drawer Systems

Is your D-Max like the Hitchcock classic ‘Psycho’ - a thriller at the front, but a horror show in the back? Too many trucks are spoiled by haphazard truck beds. That’s where a truck drawer system can make all the difference to your vehicle.

For example, the system made by DECKED. Take a couple of almost-indestructible bed-length drawers designed to withstand daily punishment, add in a galvanized steel frame and some made-to-measure toolboxes, then cover with a false floor capable of supporting up to 900 kg. It’s the perfect recipe for a tidy truck bed that leaves your D-Max looking tastier than ever.

  1. Tailgate Damper Kits

This add-on targets the most neglected part of the truck - the tailgate. Your D-Max might have Apple CarPlay, an Auto Dimming Rear Mirror, Bi-LED Headlights, Reversing Camera and Heated Door Mirrors, but if your tailgate still clunks open like a hammer hitting an anvil, it’s time to upgrade.

A tailgate damper kit acts as a shock absorber for the truck’s tailgate, controlling its speed to deliver a smooth, almost-silent open and close. By reducing the effective weight of the tailgate by half, the damper swaps the slam for a gradual descent and the same on closing, lowering the risk of fingers getting caught between the tailgate and body on closing. If you’ve ever done that, you’ll (painfully) know that the tailgate assist is one of the easiest ways to increase the safety of your truck bed.

  1. Water Defence Kits

If a hardtop canopy is the ultimate accessory, then a water defence kit is the ultimate accessory’s ultimate accessory. Although designed to keep out the worst of the weather, no hardtop is 100% water tight, and this is where a water defence kit comes in handy.

By closing the gap between the tailgate and the truck, the high-grade EPDM rubber seal channels water away from the truck bed. Water defence systems can be used with both pickup hardtops and tonneau covers, providing both easy fitment and elegant protection against the elements.

  1. Wheel Arch Kits

Wheel arch kits are like designer sunglasses. Their notional purpose is to protect what’s underneath, but there’s a reason why the best rock stars wear them indoors - they just look so damn cool.

Yes, you can expect ABS plastic wheel arches to help stop stone chips and careless reversers in the next parking bay from damaging your existing arches, but it’s their rugged, action-star good looks (especially those with bolt-on styling) that really make them a must-have buy for the design-conscious D-Max owner.

That’s the list. How did it compare to your own list? Did we miss an add-on you were expecting to see? Keep following the Truckman blog for more accessory recommendations for your D-Max.
