With the cover down and locked, can the tailgate be opened without lifting the tonneau cover up?

The tailgate of the truck can be opened with the tonneau cover closed, but we would usually recommend opening the tonneau cover before opening the vehicle tailgate. Mostly, this is to prevent any possibility of the vehicle tailgate knocking into the locking system in the tonneau cover and affecting it.
