How To Fit Wind Deflectors

how-to-fit-wind-deflectors

Earth, Wind and Fire. Great band (Boogle Wonderland, anyone?) not so great if you get any one of them in your truck (the elements, not the group). For everyday annoyance, nothing beats the constant whistle of the wind through a partially open window, with wind noise obscuring the sound of both your sat nav and passengers with the same high-pitched drone.

Luckily - and I don't think I am revealing any spoilers here - Truckman has a range of aerodynamic wind and rain deflectors that will turn away rain and wind from the interior of your truck whilst still allowing you to keep your windows ajar for natural air circulation, saving precious fuel from being wasted on constant air conditioning. Window deflectors keep your window glass steam-free, which means better visibility, and as most have a dark tint they'll also help to reduce glare from the sun entering the cab.

Sold? Well, then you'll need to know how to install them - and that's where this short guide to fitting wind deflectors should come in handy. Let's get started.

We're going to fit a set of Truckman wind deflectors to a pick-up truck, although the process is the same if you have a car. Inside the packaging you'll find both the front and the rear set of wind deflectors. To help you you'll also find a set of fitting instructions and cleaning wipes.

1. Check you have all the wind deflectors you ordered

Firstly, open your package to check that you have the right number of wind deflectors. You should also check that they adhere to the vehicle using a strong adhesive strip. If not, then this isn't the guide you're looking for.

2. Preparing your window frames

Once you have confirmed you've got the right stuff, next it's time to clean the driver's window frame and rubber seal where the first wind deflector will be positioned. This will help with adhesion and visibility. One handy tip is to line up the deflectors first to work out fitting locations before you start cleaning. Then, go through the same process with the passenger's car window and any rear windows you're going to be fitting a rear deflector to.

You must let the cleaning fluid dry completely before you continue with the rest of the fitment, or you risk damaging the adhesion of the backing strips.

3. Preparing your wind deflectors for fitting

Once the cleaning fluid is fully dry, remove the backing from the DC strips on the first wind deflector. We are going to work on the driver's door first.

4. Applying your deflector to your door frame

Very carefully, align the deflector with the door frame. It's best to stick down one corner first before moving on to the other. That way, it's easier to remove the deflector and start again if you don't get it right first time, because you're not left trying to pry the whole deflector off.

5. Make sure that adhesion is strong

Once you are happy with the placement of your deflector, press down firmly on the deflector's surface to activate the adhesive tape and secure the deflector in place on your vehicle. That's the first door done. Simples!

Press down hard on the surface of the wind deflector to ensure adhesion.

6. Fit the rest of the wind deflectors in turn

Repeat this process for all the other door deflectors to complete the fit.

Finally, repeat for the remaining wind deflectors.

In no-time you'll be laughing in the face of the elements, safe in the knowledge that your wind deflectors are doing their job. Not a lot of money for a decent amount of benefit. Happy trucking!
